9 Princesses That Should Totally Join Merida Ononce Upon Timehttps://twitter.com/AmyMansonLondon/status/475301300364914688
Amy Manson (whom you may remember from BBC’s 'Being Human') has been cast on season 5 of Once Upon a Time. Who is she playing? None other than Merida from Brave. If her #ThrowbackThursday tweet above is any indication, she’s the perfect pick to play the strong-headed Scottish princess.
That got us thinking, what other ladies of noble birth would we love to see on the show?
With that in mind, here are 7 princesses we haven’t seen on 'Once Upon a Time' that would be perfect additions.
- Princess Tiana Giphy
Last year, when Sonequa Martin-Green was cast for a then-secret role, the amount of IS SHE GOING TO PLAY PRINCESS TIANA OMG speculation was at fever pitch. She didn't end up playing Princess Tiana from The Princess and The Frog,' but did end up as Tamara, a normal human villain (and maybe not from New Orleans). A real world visit to Storybook by the Maldonian royal wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility, considering Tiana knows magic exists. Kissing a frog prince will do that to you.
- Thumbelina Giphy
For those who don't remember the story, Thumbelina is the story of a little girl born inside of a flower who remained the size of a thumb all her life. After some adventures with a mole and a toad that don't know the meaning of consent, she falls in love with a fairy prince and lives happily ever after. There's a heartwarming movie from 1994 about her, but it's really based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, which is why she would be a perfect addition to the 'Once Upon a Time' world.
- Princess Jasmine Giphy
Ever since 'Once Upon a Time' started, fans have been patiently waiting ( and sometimes impatiently waiting ) for the day an Arabian princess and a former street urchin would appear on their screens. The fans have spoken : it's time for Aladdin and Jasmine (and even the non-blue genie from the now canceled 'Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) to join Storybrook.
Disney’s 'Pocahontas' was based on an actual person whose story gets pretty #dark , but the cartoon movie is one of the most beloved ever . Why can’t Pocahontas and her raccoon friend Meeko make an appearance? And hey — Virginia (where Pocahontas is from) is a hop skip and jump away from Maine, where all our favorite fairytale characters are living.
- Princess Leia Giphy
This will probably never happen, but since Lucasfilms sold the 'Star Wars' franchise to Disney (who also owns ABC, the network that hosts Once Upon a Time) in 2012, it’s entirely in the realm of possibility that it could . (It won’t happen-- but it could!)
- Ariel's Sisters Giphy
Remember in Disney's 'The Little Mermaid,' Ariel has six sisters ? Well, what have they've been up to? Actress Joanna Garcia hasn't been on screen in 'OUAT' nearly enough. Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, and Andrina are six princesses that we know nothing about. Let's change that.
- The Twelve Princesses
Bet you haven't heard of this fairy tale before. After reading the Brothers Grimm story, however, you might think it could serve as great plot for the second half of 'OUAT's' upcoming season -- honestly, it could be it’s own movie. Here’s a little synopsis: Twelve princesses are locked in the same room every night by their father the king, but in the morning, their shoes are always worn through as if they had been on a long journey. Intrigue! So sets the basis of the mysterious story. Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis would make this fairytale extremely memorable on 'Once Upon a Time'.
- The Swan Princess
The fairytale of The Swan Princess is based on the most famous ballet ever, 'Swan Lake' (which in turn is the basis of the movie 'Black Swan,' whose gorgeous GIF we borrowed). It revolves around a princess under a curse (sound familiar?) forced to live a life that she doesn't want to live (sound familiar?), and has a complicated love story with a man who betrays her but still actually loves her. Sound familiar? An evil sorcerer may have turned Odette and her companions into swans, but Emma Swan was turned into an evil sorcerer in 'Once's' season finale, if you can wrap your head around that. The Swan princess could probably relate to 'OUAT's' Emma Swan one in more ways than just their names.
- Princess Giselle Giphy
This isn't just an excuse to see Amy Adams on the small screen alongside Ginnifer Goodwin. 'Enchanted' royal Princess Gisele now lives in New York City with Robert (who was played by Patrick Dempsey), if timelines are to be trusted. One may wonder if The Wicked Witch or Robin Hood ran into them when they were living there. Regardless, the plot of 'Enchanted' actually fits with Once Upon a Time canon. It's so perfect. The powers that be should make it happen.
