Alexandra Daddario Shows Off Vulnerable Side Inpercy Jackson
When your mom is the goddess of war, you're probably not going to win the award for Miss Congeniality at Camp Half-Blood. Such was the case for Annabeth Chase (played by actress Alexandra Daddario ), who went toe-to-toe with the titular character on numerous occasions throughout 2010's 'Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.' But, as Daddario explained to MTV News, fans will get to see the softer side of the demigod in the sequel.
'I think in the first movie she's tougher and she has more of a guard up. And I think as far as her relationship with Percy is concerned, she wants him to prove himself to her more,' Daddario said. 'In this one, I think she's a better friend. I think she's let him in. She's more vulnerable, and I think it's sort of a sign of her growing up that she's able to sort of show her weaknesses a little more. And I liked playing that.'
Much like 'Lightning Thief,' 'Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters' revolves around an epic quest to find a lost object. This time, it's the legendary Golden Fleece, which according to lore, can heal anyone or anything. Camp Half-Blood's protective barrier has been breached, and only the Golden Fleece can fix it. But there's more afoot than just broken boundaries. New characters come into the mix, including one who has a surprising connection to Percy — and irks Annabeth. (Spoilers ahead if you haven't read the book!)
'You see more of what makes her tick, and when you find out Percy has a half-brother, she really doesn't like him because he's a Cyclops,' Daddario explained. 'Not to give too much away, but I'm sure everyone's read the books. And you sort of find out why that is, and you sort of find out where she comes from and who she was, and I think she learns a lot from her dislike of this person. She sort of finds out that everyone's not so bad. It was interesting to play this more vulnerable, sweet side of her and see what makes her who she is.'
'Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters' is in theaters now.
