Babyface Have Indianapolis Highway Named His Honor
Very soon commuters in Indianapolis will be able to cruise down 'Babyface' Highway while traveling through the city on Interstate 65.A 20-mile stretch of I-65 surrounding the city will be christened after renowned singer-songwriter-producer Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds at a special ceremony being held on July 16 at the Capitol rotunda.
The Indianapolis native will travel to his hometown for the dedication, which will be made by Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon and feature the unveiling of one of the actual road signs that will be placed along 'Babyface' Highway. In a statement announcing the ceremony, Gov. O'Bannon wrote: 'Kenny Edmonds has made great strides in the entertainment industry and has brought great distinction to the state of Indiana through his music and by never forgetting to give back to the community.'
The decision to name a portion of the interstate in Babyface's honor was made by the Indiana General Assembly which, on April 6, 1999, passed a House Resolution
sponsored by Rep. William A. Crawford.In conjunction with the highway dedication, Babyface will donate ,000 to help establish a state chapter for the VH1 Save the Music Campaign. Over the course of his 16-year career, Babyface has won multiple Grammy Awards and has been involved in the recording or production of singles that have totaled over 30 million in sales, and albums that have sold a combined 80 million copies.
