Bryan Cranstons Head Cast
OK, Power Rangers , you have our attention. Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston announced on Tuesday (June 21) that he will be making his triumphant return to the Power Rangers franchise as galactic guru Zordon in the upcoming big-screen reboot.
It's not known what form Cranston's Zordon will take in Dean Israelite's Power Rangers -- and judging by some of the film's updated costume designs , it really could be anything -- but he's usually depicted as a giant floating head. As the creator and mentor of the Power Rangers, Zordon wants nothing more than to take down his adversary, alien villainess Rita Repulsa, who will be played by Elizabeth Banks in the film. So yes, this movie is now Cranston versus Banks and oh my god we couldn't be anymore excited.
Cranston voiced several characters in the original '90s series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers . 'One of my jobs as a young actor starting out was voice-over,' he told IGN back in 2009 . 'I also did dubbing ... So foreign films would come in and I'd go in. One of the places that did a lot of that was Saban Entertainment. And they would take movies and then cartoons from all over the world and we'd go and do the English dub. And the Power Rangers came in, and I did some voices for that ... And it paid like .00 an hour, which was fantastic. And you'd work two, three hours at least a day.'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MQ0rDcZAtw
Joining Cranston on Team Power Rangers are Becky G (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zack/Black Ranger), Me, Earl and the Dying Girl scene-stealer RJ Cyler (Billy/Blue Ranger), and newcomer Dacre Montgomery (Jason/Red Ranger).
Screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller ( X-Men: First Class ) wrote the screenplay for Power Rangers , which will follow a group of misfit Angel Grove High School students as they find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers to save the world from alien threats. Given this latest casting, we're happy that Power Rangers is actually going back to the franchise's roots. Sure, the costumes might look different , but its heart (and floating head!) is in the right place.
