Dj Mehdi Death Details Emerge

Some details emerged on Wednesday (September 14) about the shocking death of French electro producer DJ Mehdi . The popular DJ (born Mehdi Favéris-Essadi) died on Tuesday at age 34 when he was fatally injured after falling from the roof of his Paris home.

According to Liberation Next , Mehdi suffered fatal injuries when a skylight in the Plexiglas floor of his apartment in Paris' 20th arrondissement shattered, causing the DJ and three of his friends to plummet 7 meters. The three unidentified friends were sent to the hospital as well. One of Mehdi's publicists said the party at the DJ's home was a birthday celebration for pal DJ Riton, according to the French newspaper France Soir .

The Paris Social Club , where Mehdi often worked, announced that it would close its doors on Tuesday night in honor of the DJ. 'Following the death of DJ Mehdi, we have made the exceptional decision to close the club tonight,' read a post on the club's Facebook page. 'An evening of silence in honor of the artist. Thank you for not commenting on this status.'

After working his way up to premier producer status, Mehdi linked up with French electro-house DJ/producer Pedro Winter (a.k.a. Busy P), whose label, Ed Banger Records, rose to international prominence with acts like Mr. Oizo and SebastiAn and Justice. Mehdi's 2007 single 'I Am Somebody,' featuring Chromeo, enjoyed Stateside success, including placement in a commercial for XM Radio.

But Mehdi was equally well-known for his remixes, memorably reworking tracks by Architecture in Helsinki, New Young Pony Club and Miike Snow, among many others.

Tributes also continued to pour in for the popular mixer, including one from Canadian soul funk duo Chromeo, who said, 'We lost our brother. No words.' English DJ/producer Toddla T also weighed in, writing, 'RIP Mehdi ... a top bloke xxxx ... one thing you could always count on from Mehdi was a hug and a smile,' as did dubstep icon Skream , who had just performed with Mehdi. 'RIP DJ Medhi ... can't believe I was with you Saturday ... I'm speechless for the loss of DJ Mehdi. Sending all my love to his beautiful family and to Pedro Winter and Ed Banger Records in Paris,' Skream wrote.
