Everything You Need Know About Finding Dorys New Characters

How far would you go to help a friend? Would you travel an entire ocean? In Finding Dory , the anticipated sequel to the beloved 2003 Disney•Pixar film Finding Nemo , anxious clownfish Marlin and forgetful blue tang fish Dory once again set out on a perilous adventure across the ocean. This time, however, it's not Nemo they're looking for; it's Dory's family.

Despite the 13-year gap, Finding Dory picks up just one year after Marlin and Dory brought Nemo home to the coral reef, safe and sound. However, after an undertow triggers a flashback of hazy memories, Dory, Marlin, and little Nemo journey across the ocean to find Dory's mom and dad in the kelp forest of Northern California -- and they only have one cryptic clue to go on: 'The jewel of Monterey, California,' which Dory mutters in her sleep.

'All I know is that I miss them. I really, really miss them,' Dory says in the trailer . 'Do you know what that feels like?' Marlin looks at Nemo. He sighs because he does, indeed, know what that feels like. 'Dad, you can get us all the way across the ocean, right?' young Nemo asks (fun fact: the original actor who voiced Nemo is now in his 20s). 'No,' Marlin he says. 'But I know a guy.' (A guy with a welcoming pair of flippers, perhaps?) And thus the wild adventure begins!

Of course along the way Marlin and Dory reunite with some familiar faces, like laid-back sea turtle Crush and his son Squirt, and encounter a few eccentric new ones, including 'adorable' baby otters, a kooky loon, and Dory's new friends at the Marine Life Institute, where she unfortunately finds herself after getting separated from Marlin and Nemo. But that's OK. There's a whale shark named Destiny who's more than happy to see her.

To help you keep track of all of the new and returning characters in Finding Dory , we've created this handy who's who guide that even Dory herself would appreciate.

  • Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) Disney•Pixar

Everyone's favorite blue tang fish is back with her very own adventure as she attempts to find her family. With only 'The jewel of Monterey, California' to go on, Dory and her friends, Marlin and Nemo, must piece together Dory's nebulous past if they want to find her parents.

  • Marlin and Nemo (voiced by Albert Brooks and Hayden Rolence) Disney•Pixar

It's been a year since Marlin and Dory embarked on their harrowing adventure to find Nemo, so when we catch up with little Nemo and his pops in Finding Dory , he's enjoying life on the reef with his dad and Dory and doing what normal kids do: going to school. But when Dory starts to remember bits and pieces of her past, it's Nemo, with his lucky fin, who offers his help first -- much to his dad's chagrin. After all, Marlin has already traveled the ocean once, and he's certainly not looking to do it again. However, Marlin knows firsthand how it feels to lose family, so he has no choice but to follow his friend on another crazy adventure.

  • Crush (voiced by director Andrew Stanton) Disney•Pixar

It wouldn't be a Finding Nemo sequel without scene-stealing turtle Crush, who's always happy to lend his flipper to a fish in need.

  • Squirt (voiced by Bennett Dammann) Disney•Pixar

And of curse his ~ totally tubular ~ son Squirt will be along for the ride, too!

  • Bailey (voiced by Ty Burrell) Disney•Pixar

The Marine Life Institute's beluga whale is a bit of a hypochondriac. He's convinced his sonar skills are on the fritz, but nothing actually appears to be wrong with him. His constant anxiety tends to drive his Marine Life neighbors crazy, especially Destiny. Maybe Dory will be able to get through to him.

  • Destiny (voiced by Kaitlin Olson) Disney•Pixar

Have you ever wondered how Dory learned to speak whale? Odds are she learned it from Destiny, one of the residents of the Marine Life Institute. Just like Dory, this clumsy whale shark is confused about her own identity, but there is one thing (er, fish?) she does know: Dory. While the origins of their friendship are a bit nebulous, Dory is just delighted to learn that her 'new' supersized friend speaks whale, too.

  • Hank (voiced by Ed O'Neill) Disney•Pixar

Hank is a cantankerous octopus -- he's technically a septopus because he lost a tentacle -- who's afraid of being re-released into the ocean and longs for the comfort and solitude of an aquarium tank in Cleveland, Ohio. The sour septopus is also an 'accomplished escape artist,' so we know he'll play an integral part in Dory's plan to break out of the Marine Life Institute.

  • Becky (voiced by Torbin Bullock) Disney•Pixar

This kooky, eccentric loon is smarter than she looks, and she takes an immediate liking to Marlin. If only he would learn to have a little faith in her.

  • Charlie and Jenny (voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton) Disney•Pixar

Part of the fun of Finding Dory , aside from checking in with all of our favorites, is meeting new characters like Dory's patient parents, Charlie and Jenny. As Dory pieces together her memories, we'll get to see how this forgetful fish learned to survive in the vast ocean all by herself. Needless to say, Jenny and Charlie taught their daughter well.

  • Baby Otters Disney•Pixar

OK. These baby otters may look cute, but everyone knows sea otters have a dark side . In fact, THEY'RE HUGE JERKS. So will Stanton expose otters for what they truly are? With faces as cute as these, who can really say.

  • Rudder and Fluke (voiced by Dominic West and Idris Elba) Disney•Pixar

It's a Wire reunion! West and Elba team up again as Rudder and Fluke, a pair of lazy sea lions who were rehabilitated at the Marine Life Institute. Don't worry: Their bark is far worse than their bite.

  • Mr. Ray (voiced by Bob Peterson) Disney•Pixar

Nemo's tune-loving teacher from the reef is back, and he's hired Dory as his teacher's assistant during the class's daily field trips.

We just have to keep swimming a little longer until the June 17 release of Finding Dory .
