French Montana Drake Honor Chinx With Heartfelt Messages
French Montana introduced Chinx to the world as a member of his Coke Boys crew, and late Sunday night, less than a day after Chinx was shot and killed in Queens , French addressed his friend's death for the first time publicly.
'The devil comes in all shapes and sizes and he's ruthless,' the rapper wrote on Instagram, captioning a re-posted video of Jay Z paying tribute to Chinx at his B Sides concert , also on Sunday night. 'Life here is temporary. They will kill you for this lifestyle, if they can't afford it jealousy is a motherf--ker Protect yourself, protect the people you love. I'm sad to see my brother go out like this, one of the realest people I met. This sh-t's not right. These streets don't love us My prayers go to his kids and family. We going to finish off what we started #ripchinx #ripstacks #freemaxb s/o to #jayz.'
The 31-year-old Chinx, born Lionel Pickens, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso at around 4 a.m. on Sunday, an NYPD representative told MTV News. He was later pronounced dead at hospital near where the shooting took place.
Just over a week ago, French released his Casino Life 2: Brown Bag Legend mixtape, which featured Chinx twice. The two dropped the collaborative Coke Boys Run New York mixtape in 2011, and worked together on a number of Coke Boys releases, as well. Chinx had also won fans with solo tracks like 'Feelings,' 'I'm A Coke Boy,' 'Dope House' and 'Bodies,' as well as his Cocaine Riot mixtape series.
Beyond just French, there was an outpouring of love, sadness and condolences from others in the hip-hop community.
Drake, too, shared a few words on Instagram.
'Rest in peace Chinx,' he wrote. 'All my prayers to French. Hard to see one of the good guys go. Condolences to all friends and family from OVO and the Reps.'https://instagram.com/p/2zy6K1DQK_/?taken-by=champagnepapi
Meek Mill, who had addressed the incident on Instagram early Sunday, then teamed up with Travis Scott and Strap to release 'Miss My Dawgs,' a tribute to both Chinx and Lil Snupe, who was killed in 2013 .
Red Cafe and Fabolous also paid their respects in song form, with 'Still Here,' dedicated to both Chinx and Shakedown Bullet.
Currently, no arrests have been made in the shooting. Stay with MTV News for more updates as they become available.
