Heres Every Time Band You Like Has Shown Up Ongame Thrones

After the shock from the horrifying zombie nonsense that was the most recent ' Game of Thrones ' episode wore off, some eagle-eyed music nerds noticed something -- hey, those dead guys look kinda familiar. That's because they were; some guys from the heavy metal band Mastodon got to play Wildlings in the episode's brutal conclusion, which is ridiculously awesome.

But casting musicians in small parts on the show isn't something new to this season -- series creators David Bennioff and Dan Weiss have been doing it since the very first season, starting with:

  1. Season 1: Dr. Feelgood HBO

Fun fact: Ilyn Payne, otherwise known as the guy who cut of Ned Stark's head, is played by the former guitarist of Dr. Feelgood from the '70s, Wilko Johnson. That counts, right?

  2. Season 3: Snow Patrol

Gary Lightbody, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Snow Patrol, played the part of a traveling bard with Roose Bolton's bannerman -- a.k.a., the people who capture Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth. Later in the season they try to reenact the song with Brienne as the maiden vs. a real live bear, so consider this foreshadowing.

  3. Season 3: Coldplay HBO

Will Champion, the drummer of Coldplay, appeared as -- what else? -- a drummer in the band at the wedding of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey. You know, the infamous Red Wedding where Robb and Catelyn Stark were brutally slaughtered. No big thing.

  4. Season 4: Sigur Ros

Jón Þór Jónsi Birgisson, Georg Hólm, and Orri Páll Dýrason performed to a very irate Joffrey at his own wedding, right before he shuffled off this mortal coil thanks to some well-placed poison. The full version of the Lannister fight song 'Rains of Castamere' also closed out the episode.

  5. Season 5: Mastodon HBO

Not only did the heavy metal band write a song for this year's 'Catch The Throne: The Mixtape Volume 2,' but band members Brann Stark Dailor, Bill Kelliher, and Brent Hinds were personally invited to be on the show this season... to be brutally murdered. But it's cool, they dug it. 'I watched my best friends Brent and Bill, murdered right in front of me as I myself was stabbed in the stomach and had my throat slit multiple times, and I didn't mind at all,' Dailor told Pitchfork .

  6. Also Season 5: The Leader Of Das Sound Machine HBO

What, this totally counts too! As we pointed out during our recap this weekend , Birgitte Hjort Sørensen played both Karsi in last week's ridiculous episode closer (sob) and was the leader of the antagonistic German a cappella group in 'Pitch Perfect 2.' Guess that Muse song they did in the movie was wrong -- the White Walkers totally did destroy them. Womp womp.
