Ice Cube Didn't Smile During His First MTV Movie Awards -- But He'll Have To This Year

Ice Cube Didnt Smile During His First Mtv Movie Awards Hell Have This Year

Ice Cube had reason to celebrate at the very first MTV Movie Awards, back in 1992, since the flick that first helped him break into acting, Boyz in the Hood , was nominated for Best Movie. But Cube -- known at the time for his viscousness on the mic -- wore a stern look on his face during his red carpet walk.

You know what has made him smile through the years, though? His son, O'Shea Jackson Jr.

And he'll have another reason to flash those pearly whites this year, at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards on April 10, where O'Shea Jr. is nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance for playing his pops in Straight Outta Compton .

The performance was remarkable not just because son's resemblance to father was so uncanny, but also because of how he channeled his eneregy. How he teleported us back to that time. How he showed promise of an ability to do a lot more than just play the dude whose house he grew up in.

Whether or not O'Shea Jackson Jr. wins Best Breakthrough Performance, something tells me that, come that Sunday night in April, Cube will be proud -- and smiling.

To help put that grin on Cube's face (or any of your other favorites), you have until March 20, 2016 to vote for the 2016 MTV Movie Awards .
