Kid Cudi Is Bummed His Gay Kissing Scenes Were Cut Fromjames White
Nowadays, Kid Cudi is just as well known for his club-ready music as he is for his acting career. After making a splash in HBO's dearly-departed gem multi-hyphenate Cudi attended Sundance promoting his latest film , 'James White .' In the film, Cudi plays the best friend of the film's lead (Christopher Abbott of Girls fame). Cudi's character also happens to be gay in the film.
'This was way different than anything else I've ever done,' Cudi said to Billboard . 'It was dope to do that. I felt like I had a responsibility to present a different walk in life from that world.'
Although his character's sexuality is not outwardly discussed during the film, the original script included a coming out scene and a hot kiss between Cudi and a male friend, played by David Call. ''I didn't flinch. I'm secure with mine,' Cudi told an audience after the film's premiere. 'I'm an artist—it's all about playing characters that are intriguing and stimulating.'
Cudi first learned his character's most vulnerable scenes were cut at the premiere and he wasn't pleased. 'I'm mad [director and writer Josh Mond] cut out my kissing scenes with David,' he said. 'We made out so many times -- and it was so good!'
In addition to acting, Cudi also scored the film and it was not a fluke opportunity. Mond said that he listened to Cudi's album's when writing the film. 'It was an inspiration and motivation for me,' Mond told Billboard. 'He really understands me.'
There's no word yet on when 'James White' will get a theatrical release, but in the meantime, we recommend a 'How to Make it in America' binge-watch to quench your Kid Cudi acting thirst.
