Nathan Kress Is Grown Up
Nathan Kress was only 14 years old when he started filming the hit Nickelodeon show ' iCarly .' Soon, he became a household name, with his character Freddie Benson stuck in the midst of an internet ship war amongst fans. And even though the show ended a little over three years ago, fans still haven't slowed down with 'Creddie' (Carly & Freddie) and 'Seddie' (Sam & Freddie) shipping.
In fact, fans went into overdrive after learning Kress married girlfriend London Elise Moore on Nov. 15 in Los Angeles, and were visibly upset he didn't end up with either Miranda Cosgrove or Jennette McCurdy , his two co-stars on the show.
'Sometimes people have a little bit of trouble separating reality from a television show,' Kress told MTV News when we sat down with the actor in our offices late last week. And in fact, after Kress and Moore announced their wedding, both of their instagrams were flooded with comments more about Kress' fictional relationships, than his real one.
'Honestly, the only things that kind of bother me are more the people who will go on London’s stuff and say, 'I hate you, you’re horrible because Freddie's supposed to be with Sam,'' Kress added.

And there is a fine line between being jokingly upset about TV show characters' relationships, and actually projecting anger onto someone deemed 'responsible.' On the show, Freddie pined after Carly since the pilot, and their entire 'more than BFFs' relationship culminated with Carly spontaneously kissing Freddie during one of the last scenes of the finale.
Sam and Freddie, however, was something else entirely -- and something that Kress noted might make fans rethink shipping him and his co-star IRL.
'Sam and Freddie did date and it ended horribly,' admitted Kress. 'It was basically an abusive relationship with Sam... It was this weird kind of love/hate thing going on, and personally, especially after seeing all of that play out and then comparing it to marriage and everything else, I can't imagine anyone wanting to be married to someone where that’s a normal thing.'
Even though he's only been married for about a month, Kress' relationship appears to be the exact opposite of Freddie and Sam's situation. The couple have mutual respect for one another and support each other's endeavors. For example, their honeymoon was cancelled at the last minute so Kress could fly out to New York and film the movie ' Breaking Brooklyn .' Instead of being angry about plans changing, London looked forward to all the adventures she and her new hubby would experience.
We jokingly told Kress his wife was a keeper for willingly ditching her honeymoon, and he completely agreed. In fact, the way he gushed about London was so heartwarming and genuine, it made us want everyone demanding for 'Creddie' or 'Seddie' to happen IRL to take a step back and look at the bigger picture: Kress is happy, and Freddie Benson is not a real person.Xavier Guerra / MTV News
But, don’t think Kress isn’t appreciative of the fans’ loyalty to a show that hasn’t made a new episode since 2012. We’re three years out, and [the Creddie vs. Seddie fan wars have] still continued, which is crazy — and I love that,' Kress noted. 'Obviously, that means that we made something people, even years after the fact with no new content, they still love.'
If you're wondering what Freddie would be up to now, Kress has some ideas. The last time we saw Freddie, he guest-starred on a special episode of ' Sam & Cat ,' traveling all the way from Seattle to Los Angeles after believing Sam was injured in an accident. During the episode, it's suggested that Freddie and Sam still have feelings for each other and would pick up where they left off after 'iCarly' ended, but Kress deems this unlikely. Besides their toxic relationship, the long-term deal probably wouldn't work for them. (Sorry, Seddie fans.)
In fact, Kress doesn't believe Freddie and Carly ended up together either, thanks to the whole Italy thing (Carly moved there in the last episode). He thinks Freddie got together with one of his one-off girlfriends we'd occasionally see on the show — not necessarily for love, but because they were simply there in Seattle with him.
Kress also shared a semi-troubling thought that there's a good chance Freddie ended up living with his mother (Mary Scheer) for all of eternity, which sounds much more likely. Mrs. Benson was the poster child for 'smothers' everywhere, and she became agitated whenever Freddie was away from her. Remember how she reacted when she caught Freddie and Carly kissing? She screamed bloody murder until Carly ran out of the room. Good luck trying to bring home a potential wife to her, Freddie.Xavier Guerra / MTV News
But for the sake of argument, let's pretend Carly didn't go off to Italy with her father at the end of 'iCarly.' Would a true relationship have bloomed between Freddie and Carly then? Kress believes so.
'I think if everyone had stayed in Seattle... Carly would have realized what a fantastic guy [Freddie] was and how he was the one all along, even though he was right there, and it would have been that kind of textbook sitcom-y situation. So ultimately, that probably would have been it.' Great news for Creddie fans, but not so great for Seddie ones.
When asked if he thought Freddie grew up to pursue a career in filmmaking, Kress mused that his character would've focused on a career in the technical field, not so much in production, citing that all the facets of production were more of a pastime for him. Since both of his web series stars moved away, there was no one to film anymore -- so it would be time to move on.
Kress also added that he wasn't sure if Freddie became a software developer or a start-up owner, but he thinks the tech direction was his ultimate career choice.
So, unless we have a type of 10 year reunion like we saw earlier this year with ' Zoey 101 ,' we'll never truly know who Freddie ended up with in life. But one thing is for certain: Kress ended up with London Elise Moore, and he couldn't be happier.
