Pharrell 'Wasn't Happy' With T.I.'s Paperwork -- Even Though He Executive Produced It

Pharrell may have executive produced T.I.' s 2014 album Paperwork , but apparently that doesn't mean he was very pleased with the finished product.

I wasn’t happy about the T.I. situation, the hit-maker told GQ in a new cover story. They did that record hoping for radio play, and they got nothing out of it...Great, you got your No. 1 hip-hop song. But what does that do for your sales?

Though Skateboard P doesn't specify who the 'they' he's talking about is, it sounds like he's upset with Tip's label, Columbia, more than the rapper himself -- though it certainly could be taken either way.

You want to be camouflage? he continued. Go ahead. Blend in. But we want to be that twinkle in the sky. We want to be that twinkle in the sky. And you might not be able to see that star now. But it’s daytime. Wait till it gets dark.

In addition to his role as executive producer on the release, Pharrell also produced four tracks, including 'Light 'Em Up (RIP Doe B),' a tribute to the late rapper who was signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle.

That record was recorded the day he died, so the feeling was very surreal and it was extremely heavy on my heart, T.I. told MTV News when the album dropped, crediting P with encouraging get in the booth immediately.

Over the summer, Tip explained how the album would blend his style with Pharrell's in an interview with MTV News, which you can watch below.
