Rae Sremmurd Discuss Crazy Dumb Viral Success Mannequin Challenge
As the #MannequinChallenge continues to spread the world over, Rae Sremmurd are reaping all the benefits. The duo’s SremmLife 2 cut Black Beatles — the unofficial theme song of the challenge — is now the No. 1 song in the country (R.I.P. Closer) and even scored a Nicki Minaj remix yesterday.
Riding high on the buzz, Slim Jimmy and Swae Lee stopped by ESPN’s SportsCenter to discuss their role in the viral challenge. After opening the segment by orchestrating their own mannequin challenge, Swae explained, [‘Black Beatles’] was just like, a hot song that the world gravitated towards. It was turned up at all the parties. It just brought a good feel.
The brothers only got involved after Slim Jimmy was scrolling through Twitter one day and saw the original mannequin challenge, created by a group of Florida high schoolers.
I brought it to everybody and was like, ‘We're gonna do one,’ he said. We did our video to ‘Black Beatles’ and made the freshest video ever, and it just went crazy, dumb viral.
He's not kidding — that video was filmed during a concert in Denver only two weeks ago, proving just how quickly the hype spread.https://twitter.com/iHipsterLee/status/794538451844681728
As for their favorite versions of the challenge, the duo loved the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders’ spin on it, as well as original Beatle Paul McCartney’s . Apparently there have been so many versions that they’ve lost track, though, only finding out on air that Lebron James and Michelle Obama did one as well .
Next up? Rae Sremmurd want to take the mannequin challenge to the Super Bowl.
