The latest trailer for Tim Burton's upcoming 'Alice in Wonderland' hit the Internet this morning, offering up more scenes of Burton's particular brand of goth lunacy. The film, which hits theaters in March 2010 and stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham-Carter as the Queen of Hearts, is already one of the most hotly-anticipated releases of next year, and the new trailer reveals a handful of new scenes and images, including the Cheshire Cat (though there are still no shots of the caterpillar).
When the first trailer premiered, we were reminded of the classic video for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 'Don't Come Around Here No More,' which cast Petty himself as the Mad Hatter. It was a trippy presentation that deftly used the imagery from the classic Lewis Carroll story and melded nicely with the spooky melancholy of the song. The new 'Alice in Wonderland' trailer is much more manic, which is why it more closely recalls the video for Gwen Stefani 's solo single 'What You Waiting For?' That clip sees Stefani playing the Alice role and getting sucked into Wonderland, where she grows too big and meets a series of colorful characters (including a double of herself). While 'Don't Come Around Here No More' embraced the darker side of 'Alice in Wonderland,' 'What You Waiting For?' dives headlong into the tale's manic energy.
