Up Coming Singer Songwriter Lp Slays Her Cover Beyonc Shalo
It's not very often that we come across a Beyoncé cover of ' Halo ' that doesn't suck pale in comparison to the original. But we're thrilled to say that up-and-coming singer-songwriter LP has recorded a version of the song, and holy eff , is it good. Like many artists before her, L.A.-based LP got her start as a songwriter. Since her first major deal in 2006, girlfriend has been hopping from session to session grinding out songs for Backstreet Boys , Heidi Montag and Swedish pop singer Erik Hassle , among others. Most notably, she co-penned Rihanna's hit single ' Cheers (Drink to That) .'
Listen to LP's cover of Beyoncé's 'Halo' after the jump.
In the spirit of being blunt, we'll come right out and say it: LP can saaaaang . Her voice sounds nothing like Beyoncé's, but LP's version of 'Halo' finds the perfect balance between making it her own and preserving the integrity of the original melody. It's hard to pinpoint a comparison for LP's unique set of pipes, but we're thinking they fall somewhere along the lines of Florence Welch from Florence + The Machine , Stevie Nicks and maybe a dash of Pink thrown in for good measure.
LP starts the song rather quiet, but by the end girl is belting some Christina Aguilera -style notes -- you're left shocked, shaking, thrilled and dying for LP's album to come out. Thankfully, we don't have to wait too long: LP's debut five-song CD and DVD package, titled Into The Wild (Live At EastWest Studios ), drops April 24. If that's not enough LP to satiate you ('cause honestly we're not sure we'll ever get enough), make sure to tune in to 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' on April 25 to see her make her live TV debut. Go get yours, girl.
