World First Met Harry
Exactly 16 years ago today (August 23), three unknown kids had their first press conference for what would soon become one of the biggest movie franchises of the 21st century. Daniel Radcliffe , Rupert Grint , and Emma Watson ’s casting announcement for the Harry Potter film series occurred on August 21, 2000, but the world met them for the first time two days later.
The rest is history. Radcliffe and Grint (who were both 11 at the time) and Watson (who was 10) answered the press’s questions in London and looked super, super tiny. Seriously, they were such babies back then. My heart can’t take it.

You can see some of the press conference in the eight-part documentary Creating the World of Harry Potter . That day was when the trio met properly, as DanRad put it. He explained how he was the shy, quiet one of the bunch, while Grint was Mister Chatty Jokester — which actually isn’t too far off from Harry and Ron’s personalities. One of the questions asked was how the kids would spend their first paycheck, to which Watson gave the most Hermione answer ever conceivable: She was going to save it. Meanwhile, Radcliffe sheepishly answered probably when asked if he’d be a saver like his costar. Nice try, Dan.https://twitter.com/PotterWorldUK/status/768068541354418176
Radcliffe was also asked if he shared any similarities with his iconic character. His response? Basically, Uh, yeah. Kinda sorta.https://twitter.com/PotterWorldUK/status/768054216145285121
